Our 2023 Halloween & Día de los Muertos/Day of the Dead craft, baking and sensory play range includes a Calavera/Sugar Skull bio cutter!

Day of the Dead is an interesting holiday celebrated in central and southern Mexico on 1st & 2nd of November (not to be confused with Halloween). The popular Calavera/Sugar Skull is a symbol used in Mexican culture to honour the souls of the dead. Many believe that the gates of heaven open at midnight on 31st October and the spirits of all deceased children reunite with their families for 24 hours. On 2nd November the spirits of adults come down to enjoy the festivities as well.  Sugar art was brought to Mexico by Italian missionaries in the 17th century. At the time, Mexico was abundant in sugar production - but lacked the resources to import European church decorations - and so learned how to make sugar art for their religious festivities. Sugar figures of angels, sheep and sugar skulls date back to the Colonial Period in the 18th century.*

Those who wish to partake in Día de los Muertos can do so through respectful play, crafts and learning about the origins of the Day of the Dead.  Use florals, crystals, sprinkles, stones, gems and other loose parts to decorate your playdough, clay and cookie creations.

This is a LIMITED EDITION RANGE.

Made from PLA, which is a plant-based bioplastic derived from renewable resources, such as corn starch, tapioca root or sugarcane.

Care instructions: Hand wash in warm soapy. Do not put them in the dishwasher or leave in direct sunlight as it will damage the natural materials in these cutters and shorten their lifespan.  Bioplastics are designed to biodegrade over time, unlike traditional plastics.  However if cared for well, they will last for many years.

Recommended age 3+. Use under adult supervision. NOT to be used as a teething or chew toy.
